About Dr. Arthur Day



Professor of Neurosurgery and expert on cerebrovascular medicine, Dr. Arthur Day commands a long and distinguished career as a leader in his field. He currently practices at Memorial Hermann Hospital with the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Dr. Day studied medicine at Louisiana State University in New Orleans, earning his M.D. in 1972. Following graduation, he completed a surgical internship in Birmingham, Alabama, and a neurological surgery residency at the University of Florida in Gainesville. After completion of his residency in 1977, he did a Neuropathology Fellowship in Brain Tumor Immunology at the University of Florida.

 

From 1977 to 2002, Dr. Day served as a faculty member in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida. He was promoted to full professor and Eminent Scholar in Cerebrovascular Neurosurgery in 1988. Thereafter, he filled numerous leadership positions in the hospital and academic department. For four years, he served as Co-Chairman and Program Director in the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Florida, where he encouraged academic rigor by enhancing the intellectual atmosphere and implementing additional learning opportunities and requirements for the residents.

 

A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Dr. Day returned to Boston in 2002 upon securing a professorship at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. After joining Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dr. Day served as the Director of its Cerebrovascular Center and its Neurological Sports Injury Center. He also served as the residency Program Director and later the Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery. Dr. Day also functioned as an Associate Surgeon at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center of Boston.

 

Dr. Day has received numerous awards and accolades for his years of dedicated and superior work in the field of medicine. Most recently, Dr. Arthur Day was selected as one of America's Top Doctors for Cancer in 2009, one of the Best of Boston physicians in 2010, and America’s Top Doctors in 2010.

 

Dr. Arthur Day regularly contributes to research journals, publishing articles on a variety of subjects, including developments in neurosurgery, sports medicine, and cerebrovascular disease.
