Dr. Anthony Roberts

As Chief Ophthalmologist at Shady Grove Ophthalmology in Rockville, Maryland, Dr. Anthony Roberts treats numerous patients with afflictions of the eye. Dr. Roberts has performed over 55,000 refractive surgeries and possesses years of expertise in laser vision correction. In addition to providing several types of vision correction, Dr. Anthony Roberts offers treatment for numerous ocular ailments at Shady Grove, including glaucoma, astigmatism, macular degeneration, near or farsightedness, presbyopia, and low vision.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Roberts has gained insight into the causes and cures of many eye diseases. He emphasizes the need for regular comprehensive eye exams to diagnose problems before they cause long-lasting damage. Through his exams, Dr. Anthony Roberts is able to identify possible ailments and prescribe proper treatment.

Dr. Anthony Roberts holds memberships in the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He has developed his acumen in the field not only through his professional experience, but also through training and education. Dr. Roberts began his studies at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology before endeavoring to acquire a medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He achieved his M.D. from the school in four years. He then completed a one-year internship at Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C., before receiving a fellowship in ocular pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. Less than two years later, Dr. Roberts completed his course and relocated to New York, where he began an ophthalmology residency at Stony Brook University and the Nassau University Medical Center. In 1996, he took his expertise into private practice.

In addition to working at Shady Grove, Dr. Anthony Roberts serves as the Chief Ophthalmologist for the National Football League’s Washington Redskins. In his personal time, he maintains an enthusiasm for travel and has journeyed around the globe seeking destinations to scuba dive and ski.
