Douglas Carli, a professional poker player from Alliance, Ohio, was born on September 12, 1955. He played baseball at Mount Union College in Alliance. When he was just six, he learnt poker from his father and his four older brothers, who loved the game very much. Douglas Carli, who is married to his high school sweetheart, Karen, is currently living in his hometown. He has a degree in math and after leaving college, he worked as an accountant before opening a discount brokerage. He did very well in the stock market and retired before the bubble burst.
Douglas Carli was a regular on the local poker scene but quit it in 2000 only to return in 2005. In January 2005, he secured third place in Event 5 No-Limit Hold’em at the Harrah’s Atlantic City Poker Tournament – World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit Event and bagged $19,635. Two months later, in March, Douglas Carli again made it to the final table and finished third in the No-Limit Hold’em event at the World Poker Challenge – World Poker Tour (WPT) Season 3 and won $1,723. In the same month, Douglas Carli played brilliantly, outlasting a field of 96 players to finish first in the No-Limit Hold’em event at the World Poker Challenge – WPT Season 3 and collect $7,449. On the same day, he made an impressive third-place finish in the No-Limit Hold’em event at the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino and took home a good sum of $9,396. The next day, Douglas Carli secured a respectable eighth-place finish in the Limit Hold’em event in the same tournament.
On July 12, 2005, Douglas Carli played remarkably well in a field of 971 players in Event 44 No-Limit Hold’em at the 36th Annual WSOP to finish third and bag an incredible $70,690. In September 2005, he performed well to finish as the runner-up in Event 8 No-Limit Hold’em at the Harrah’s Las Vegas Poker Tournament – WSOP Circuit Event and won $22,989.
Besides these major events, Douglas Carli managed many impressive finishes between November and December 2005. On November 2, 2005, he had a decent fifth-place finish in the No-Limit Hold’em WSOP Circuit Event at the Caesars Indiana Poker Tournament and walked home with an awesome $85,120 in prize money. A few days later, Douglas Carli made it to the final table and finished second, outlasting many well-known players in Event 5 – WSOP Circuit No-Limit Hold’em at the Ballys Las Vegas Poker Tournament. This tournament took place on November 13, 2005 at Bally’s Las Vegas and had a prize pool of $108,773. The same month, he had five more final-table finishes, adding $74,640 to his bankroll. Douglas Carli emerged as the winner in Event 13 WSOP Circuit No-Limit Hold’em held at the Ballys Las Vegas Poker Tournament and earned $8,905.
In July 2006, Douglas Carli earned his first six-digit prize money when he collected a whopping $116,936 by securing a decent seventh-place finish in Event 9 No-Limit Hold’em at the 37th Annual WSOP. His next big finish came on November 2006, when he made it to the final table to rank fifth in Event 12 No-Limit Hold’em Championship at the Caesars Indiana Poker Tournament and made $48,519. Douglas Carli had a great run at the 38th Annual WSOP in June 2007 and added $61,880 to his bankroll in Event 20 Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo by winning the third place.
Douglas Carli used to play online at Party Poke and he still occasionally plays at Absolute Poker. He likes playing in Horseshoe Southern Indiana (formerly Caesars Indiana), a riverboat casino because the venue has been lucky for him and it is also close to his home. Douglas Carli is better known by his nickname “Rico”, and his hobbies include golf, bowling, baseball, and travelling. He played baseball at Mount Union College in Alliance. He also enjoys roast chicken and Alliance, Ohio tops his list of best cities. He regards Marc Aubin from Montreal, Quebec as his best friend among the poker players. With seventy-seven cashes and three first-place finishes to his credit, his total tournament winnings add up to $953,536.
