Since October 2008, Donell McDonell has owned Merva, a 1932 Pilothouse Cruiser built in Esquimalt, British Columbia, by F. W. Morriss. Donell McDonell has published a website about the boat in order to provide information on its history and to ensure its preservation. Donell McDonell explains that Merva was crafted by a master shipwright using only the finest wood and fixtures available, both imported and domestic. Built to last, Donell McDonell’s Merva has custom-cast bronze fittings that are coated with anti-corrosion paint. All milled parts are symmetrical, creating a mirror image on each side of the boat, and the hull planks are perfectly fitted so that no caulk is necessary. On his website, Donell McDonell also provides information on refits and upgrades he has conducted on Merva, as well as his plans for the future.
