With more than 50 years of experience, Donald R. Bernard has focused on business, military, and law endeavors. Receiving a commission from the U.S. Navy as an Ensign after graduating from college, Donald R. Bernard ascended the ranks over the next 19 years, attaining the grade of Submarine Service Commander before he retired in 1975, shifting his focus more fully to his legal career. Bernard completed his Juris Doctor at The University of Texas at Austin in 1958 while serving in the armed forces. Subsequently, he became a Briefing Attorney for the Supreme Court of Texas and an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas. In the early 1960s, he joined a private practice in Houston. Donald R. Bernard worked as a Partner with the Bernard & Bernard law firm for 20 years. In 1980, Bernard decided to start a solo firm, where he worked until 1994. Donald R. Bernard has also been involved in business internationally, formerly co-owning the Banana Bank Ranch in Belize. Bernard continues to holds a residency visa for Belize. Currently the co-owner of Golden Stag Safaris and Estancia Laguna Verde in Argentina, he oversees policy development for both companies. Golden Stag Safaris provides a wide hunting range near La Pampa, boasting a variety of exotic large game for hunters looking to put more trophies up. He also serves as Chairman and Vice President of Laguna Verde, a fishing lodge located on the scenic “Jurassic Lake,” a quiet location with plentiful fish. Fly fishermen come from around the world for the plethora of rare fish available at Laguna Verde. Of particular interest is the rainbow trout, which Laguna Verde’s staff sells smoked at the Buenos Aires fish market for additional revenue. Donald R. Bernard donates to charitable causes related to education. In his free time, Bernard enjoys communing with nature. His favorite hobbies include fly fishing, rafting, skiing, scuba diving, hiking, and big game hunting.
