About Dieter Raabe

In 1961, Dieter Raabe arrived in the United States as a refugee from East Germany. Upon his arrival in the U.S., Dieter Raabe put his knowledge of foreign affairs to use by serving as an escort interpreter in the U.S. Army at Fort Lee, Virginia, while attending classes in American history at the University of Virginia, in Charlottesville.


Dieter Raabe relocated to California to continue his study of world politics and worked several jobs simultaneously. Dieter Raabe earned a Master of Arts in Comparative Politics and a Ph.D. in Comparative Politics and American Government from the University of California, Santa Barbara. After graduate school, Dieter Raabe began a successful academic career.


In 1970, Dieter Raabe was appointed Resident Director of the California State University International Programs. Later, he was hired as Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado, and served as Executive Director of the Los Angeles World Affairs Council. As Executive Director, Dieter Raabe accomplished many goals, such as bringing the President of the United States and other celebrated figures to address the organization. Dedicated to his academic endeavors, Dieter Raabe has held teaching positions at the University of California, Santa Barbara, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, and a host of other U.S. colleges.


Dieter Raabe currently resides in the Los Angeles area and consults with international businesses. In his free time, he pursues literary research and stays current with foreign affairs.
