About Diego Cavalieri


Diego Cavalieri is a goalkeeper, born on December 1, 1982 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He is of Italian ancestry and holds both Italian and Brazilian passports.


Diego Cavalieri began his professional football career in 2001 with the youth squad of the Brazilian club Sociedade Esportiva Palmeiras.


In 2002, he was elevated to the senior team and made his debut for it on 24 June, in a 4–0 away win at Rio Claro in the Campeonato Paulista. He has been a member of the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A, the highest division of the Brazilian football and made his first appearance in 2006 by replacing injured goalkeepers Marcos Roberto Silveira Reis and Sérgio. In the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, Diego Cavalieri played a total of 33 League games for the club, conceding 47 goals.


One of the most promising Brazilian goalkeepers, Diego Cavalieri was regarded as a natural successor of the "Saint" Marcos, in Palmeiras. During his stint at Palmeiras, he made a total of 104 appearances for the club.


Diego Cavalieri grabbed the attention of various European football clubs like Lisbon, Milan, and Tottenham with his skillful performance on the field during the 2006 season.


On July 11, 2008, he struck a deal with Liverpool for an undisclosed transfer fee, which keeps him in the club until 2012. With this he became the third Brazilian to play for Liverpool, following his fellow countrymen Fabio Aurelio and Lucas Leiva. He made his first-team debut for the club in a friendly match against Tranmere Rovers on July 12, 2008.


Many football critics say that he has excellent leg defense power and incredible reflexes. Diego Cavalieri has also showed that he has immense potential to defend penalties. Diego Cavalieri believes in hard work and he realizes that he will definitely reach the number one spot.
