Didier Zokora, an Ivorian footballer, was born on December 14, 1980 in Abidjan. He is known as “Maestro”, “Didi”,”Zok” and “Zoko-Pops” in the football world and plays as a midfielder and defender. He has a brother named Armand, who drowned in the beach at a tender age of 14. In the memory of his brother, Armand, he tattooed the name of his brother on his right forearm and plays every game for his brother. Didier Zokora is married and has two children. He is a strong tactical player and started his international football career in 2000 by playing for the Côte d'Ivoire national football team. As of 2008, he has represented the national team in seventy five matches and scored a goal.
After his year-long stint with the Académie Sportive des Employés de Commerce (ASEC) Mimosas football club, Didier Zokora joined KRC Genk, a Belgian football club, in 2000 and was a part of the squad that won the Belgian First Division during 2001-02 season. During his term with KRC Genk, he featured in one hundred and twenty six games for the club, scoring once. He transferred to Association Sportive (AS) Saint-Etienne in the summer of 2004 and in his stint with the club he made sixty six appearances for the club, scoring twice.
After completing his tenure with AS Saint-Etienne, Didier Zokora signed with the Tottenham Hotspur football club on June 30, 2006 and refused an offer to join Arsenal, the local rivals, because of which he became a popular player amongst the Spur fans. Due to injury worries, Didier Zokora was made captain of Tottenham Hotspur in the club’s first group stage game against Getafe and was also instrumental in helping Tottenham lift the Carling Cup during the 2007-08 season. As of September 2008, Didier Zokora has played 63 matches for the Tottenham Hotspur football club.
