Dickson Etuhu is a professional football player who was born on June 8, 1982 in Kano, Nigeria. He has three younger brothers among whom the youngest, Kelvin Etuhu, is also a football player. Dickson Etuhu was brought up in London and was sent to St. Thomas the Apostle College, which is a Roman Catholic secondary school for boys in Nunhead.
Dickson Etuhu plays for Nigeria at the international level and was confirmed in late September 2007 that he had been selected to play for the national side. He started his international career by playing two friendly matches for Nigeria and went to make his first competitive international appearance in the African Cup of Nations in January 2008. As of 2008, Dickson Etuhu has won five international caps since his inclusion into the national side.
Dickson Etuhu started his professional football career in 2000 when he joined the Manchester City football club. He was a part of the club till 2002 and played twelve games as a midfielder. Following the end of his contract period with Manchester City, he joined Preston North End and helped the team reach the play-off final during the 2004-2005 season. During the final match, Dickson Etuhu impressed many with his performance and Premiership Clubs like Everton and West Bromwich Albion were interested in signing him.
In 2005, Dickson Etuhu was sent to Norwich City on loan and he played eight games during the loan period. During the next January transfer window, he moved permanently to Norwich City for a transfer fee of £450,000. He scored his first goal for Norwich City on August 23, 2006 in a League Cup match against Torquay United and helped his team win 2-0. Dickson Etuhu netted his first league goal for this side on September 12, 2006 in a match against Southend United that ended in a 3-3 draw. Within two months of achieving this feat, he helped his team to win by scoring the only goal in a match against Cardiff at Carrow Road. He appeared in fifty four games scoring on six occasions while he played for Norwich City during the 2006-2007 season.
The summer of 2007 saw Dickson Etuhu signing a £1.5 million deal to play for Sunderland and scored his first goal for the club in a home game against Wigan Athletic on February 9, 2007. He has made twenty appearances during his stint at this club, following which he signed a £1.5 million deal with Premier League side, Fulham football club on August 29, 2008. Dickson Etuhu was given the squad number 20 after he signed to play for the club
