 Derek moved into transport training in the mid 90s having spent over 25 years on the road, both in the UK and Europe. Fleet Driver Assessment & Training was established in 2000 and has grown very well. It was a natural progression to pass on his experience to others. Over the years he has taught drivers of all classes of vehicles. Derek has a definite aim in teaching and that is professionalism. It does not matter what you drive, but it does matter who you represent when you drive. It really is all about ones own presentation and the professional image of our industry.

Derek is a member of IOTA Institute of Transport Administration, AIRSO Association of Industrial Road Safety Officers, IAM Institute of Advanced Motorists and holds the coveted Special Assessment award from the IAM for driving excellence.  Derek is an Ambassador for Brake the road safety charity. FDAT is also a member of ORSA Occupational Road Safety Alliance.

Derek is the Chairman of EDDIA (Eastbourne & District Driving Instructors Association).  Derek is a keen fisherman, and enjoys walking and photography.

Derek lives with his partner Catherine near Eastbourne East Sussex.  They have one daughter.
