Dennis Franchione is an accomplished football coach with over two decades of experience leading teams at the collegiate level.
In 1978, Dennis Franchione obtained his first college-level coaching assignment as an Assistant Coach for the football program at Kansas State University. Within three years, he earned a head coaching position at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. He led the team to win a Sunflower Bowl and a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference title.
Returning to his alma mater as a Head Coach in 1985, he led Kansas’ Pittsburg State University to win five consecutive conference titles in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. In recognition of this success, he was twice named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Coach of the Year. Dennis Franchione then served for two years as Head Coach at Southwest Texas State University before becoming Head Coach for The University of New Mexico, a Division I-A team. In 1997, he led the Lobos to win the conference championship.
Subsequently, he joined Texas Christian University as Head Coach, winning conference championships in 1999 and 2000. He then guided the football team at The University of Alabama before joining the Texas A&M University Aggies in 2003. Most recently, Dennis Franchione accepted the position of Head Coach for the football program at Texas State University–San Marcos. To date, Dennis Franchione has coached players to one divisional crown and eight conference championships.
Before entering the coaching profession, Dennis Franchione earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. In honor of his accomplishments, Pittsburg State University awarded him an Alumni Meritorious Achievement prize.
