About Debabrata Das

Debabrata Das is a 22-year-old rookie cricket player from Siliguri, India. Having only made his debut in India’s domestic circuit in February 2008, the right-handed batsman was picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders for their squad in the first season of the Indian Premier League Twenty 20 championship.

Das, who was a member of the India Under-19 squad, made his List A debut for West Bengal against Assam in February 2008. Since then he has played six matches for his home state and scored a total of 141 runs, which included his highest score of 55 not out. His batting average of 70.5 and a healthy strike rate of 92.76 made Debabrata Das the ideal candidate for the Twenty20 format of cricket.

Debabrata Das was signed up by the Kolkata Knight Riders for the first season of the Indian Premier League, a T20 championship initiated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, which sees top players from around the world competing in eight different teams for different Indian cities. Das made six match appearances for the Knight Riders, scoring a total of 103 runs. He made a promising debut against the Mumbai Indians, scoring 29. But he failed to build on that performance and though he maintained a run-a-ball strike rate, he only managed an overall batting average of 17.6 with a highest score of 31.
