David Wheater is a professional football player, who was born on February 14, 1987 in Redcar, England. His parents, Colin and Monica, have been a constant source of support in his football career; he also has a sister, Emily. He got his education from St. Dominic’s Primary, Sacred Heart.
He played his first game for England Under-16 against Scotland at Huddersfield and has been participating at all youth levels for his country. At Wrexham’s Racecourse ground, David Wheater captained the England Under-21 side for the first time against Wales on May 15, 2008. His team-mates, Tom Huddlestone and Theo Walcott, scored a goal each to fetch the 2-0 win for the team. As of the year 2008, David Wheater has made 6 appearances with the England Under-21 team.
David Wheater began his football career as a young chap with his school football team. He used to play at the Redcar Leisure Centre and later got trained at the Teesside Athletic club. He joined the Middlesbrough club in 2004 and was sent on a 4-month loan spell to the Doncaster Rovers club in 2006. During his tenure with the Rovers, he scored one goal in 7 matches and moved to the Wolverhampton Wanderers club on a 3-month loan in September 2006. In 2007, David Wheater served another loan period at the Darlington club and scored 2 goals in 15 matches for the team.
His first Middlesbrough goal came against Fulham on May 12, 2007 and scored his next goal for the team against Birmingham on September 1, 2007. He took tremendous effort to score the winning goal (2-1) against Bristol City in the third round of the Football Association (FA) Cup at Ashton Gate. On August 16, 2008, David Wheater and his team-mate, Mido, each scored a goal against Tottenham Hotspur and fetched Middlesbrough its first opening game (2-1) victory in eight years. Despite of being a central defender, he has earned a reputation for scoring from set-pieces and has netted 5 goals in 44 matches for the Boro team as of 2008.
For having scored 3 league goals and one goal in the FA Cup in an amazing stint as a Middlesbrough player, David Wheater won the ‘Young Player of the Year’ and the ‘John Ovington Community Player of the Year’ in the 2007-08 season.
