David Tran is an American professional poker player who hails from El Monte, CA, United States. He has been playing poker for more than ten years and is inclined towards playing cash games, especially $100-$200 limit hold’em.
David Tran made his first appearance at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at the 34th Annual WSOP, which was held at the Binion’s Gambling Hall. In the $2,000 WSOP Limit Hold’em event that took place on April 16, 2003 he managed to finish at a decent fifteenth place in a field that consisted of 421 other entrants. On August 16, 2003 David Tran made $19,265 when he became the second runner-up in the Limit Hold’em event of the Legends of Poker World Poker Tour (WPT) Season 2 held at the Bicycle Casino. Later that year, David Tran played at the 2003 Five Diamond – WPT Season 2 held at the Bellagio and managed to reach the final table in the No-Limit Hold’em event. Among the 295 players who took part in the event he placed fifth and took away $31,163 in prize money. David Tran managed many final-table finishes in 2003 at different tournaments and his total earnings that year alone amounted to $86,398.
On March 12, 2005, David Tran finished second in the $1000 + $60 WSOP Circuit No-Limit Hold’em event at the Rio Las Vegas Poker Tournament – WSOP Circuit Event. The Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino was the scene of action, where he became richer by $58,821. David Tran had to fight it out with 378 other players to claim the second place and prize money. The Holiday Bonus Tournament at the Commerce Casino saw David Tran competing in the No-Limit Hold’em event on November 4, 2005, and pocket $70,084 for his second-place finish at the table. He ended 2005 with a final-table finish at the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic tournament and made $24,365 in the No-Limit Hold’em event.
The Goldstrike World Poker Open (WPO)/WPT Season 4 was the first tournament he played in 2006, and he participated in Event #4 - WPO No-Limit Hold'em and Super Satellite – No-Limit Hold'em events. He managed fifth-place finishes in both events and took away $28,616 from this tournament. David Tran emerged victorious for the first time in his poker career on March 18, 2006, when he played in the No-Limit Hold’em event of the Winnin 'O' the Green tournament, which was held at the Bicycle Casino . He also pocketed $47,565 in this tournament that had a prize pool of $126,000. The following month, David Tran was the second runner-up in the WSOP Circuit No-Limit Hold’em event at the Caesars Las Vegas Poker Tournament and took home $29,682.
David Tran made his biggest cashing of 2007 at the 38th Annual World Series of Poker held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, where he won a whopping $429,114 for his fourteenth- place finish in the No-Limit Hold’em Championship event on July 17, 2007.
The year 2008 was a landmark year for David Tran because he earned the largest prize money in his poker career so far. On January 31, 2008, the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa played host to 507 poker players, who contributed to a prize pool of $4,917,900 for the $10,000 WPT No-Limit Hold’em event. David Tran played well to finish in second place and walk away with a staggering $737, 685 for his sterling performance. He carried on his good form in the next two tournaments that year and increased his bankroll by close to $200,000 in total.
As of 2008, statistics show that David Tran has 80 cashes in total and tournament winnings that amount to $1,971,835.
