David Adam Stockdale, commonly known as David Stockdale, is an English football goalkeeper born on September 20, 1985 in Leeds, West Yorkshire. He was selected for the England National Game XI squad in October 2004 and has featured in a match for it. He has made 75 league and cup appearances in the Conference National and Football League Two for York City and Darlington.


David Stockdale kicked off his football career at York City in 2003 through its youth set-up, where he developed his goalkeeping skills. He made his Football League debut for the senior team of the club as a substitute on the last day of the 2002–03 season. Following brief loan spells with Wakefield & Emley and Worksop Town during the 2005–06 season, he returned to York City at the end of the season. During his tenure with York City that lasted till that season, he played in 24 matches.


David Stockdale signed for Darlington in August 2006 following his brilliant performances in the pre-season trials with the club. He played his first match for the club in the opening game of the 2007–08 season in the place Andy Oakes, who was sent off the field. David Stockdale made most of his opportunity and soon became manager Dave Penney's preferred choice to guard the goal. His contract was extended in November 2007, and David Stockdale went on to make a total of 47 league appearances for the club during his entire time at Darlington. On June 4, 2008 he signed a two year deal for the English club, Fulham for an undisclosed fee.
