David Baker, an American professional poker player who was born in Connecticut, is currently living with his wife and daughter Kathy, in Texas. Before taking to poker professionally, David Baker was working as a business sales person, a job he took up after obtaining a degree in finance from the Auburn University. He was exposed to poker by a friend, while still in college, who had seen an old World Series show. By mid 90s, David Baker started playing Pot-Limit Omaha at casinos in New Orleans. By 2000, he started playing Hold’em thrice a week in underground casinos in Houston, apart from visiting Las Vegas now and then. It was in the year 2004 that David Baker started playing poker on a full time basis, and since then there has been no looking back.
In 2005, David Baker took home $31,279 in the Limit Hold’em event of the Partypoker Million IV, World Poker Tour (WPT) Season 3. He ranked first in the Limit Hold’em event of the Holiday Bonus Tournament, and earned $15,374. In the Limit Hold’em event of the LA Poker Classic, WPT Season 4, David Baker came first and bagged an impressive $90,210. In March 2006, he proved his mettle in the No-Limit Hold’em event of the World Poker Challenge, WPT Season 4, by finishing third and taking away $40,036. In April 2006, he again played at the No-Limit Hold’em event of the Five Star World Poker Classic, WPT Championship Season 4, securing the third position and walking away with $70,655. At the 35th Annual WSOP held in June 2006, David Baker participated in the No-Limit Hold’em event and earned $35,619. His biggest victory in terms of prize money was in October2006, when he finished fifth at the No-Limit Hold’em event in the Festa al Lago WPT and made a whopping $125,240.
Year 2007 saw David Baker winning in a number of tournaments which also included a win at the Super Satellite - No-Limit Hold’em event in WPT World Championship Season 5. He had gained entry at this event by first qualifying for the online tournament, and earning $25,700. In the same tournament David Baker made another whopping $92,820 by participating in the No-Limit Hold’em Championship event. In December 2007, he played at the Super Satellite – No-Limit Hold'em event at Bellagio Five Diamond, WPT Season 6 and made $15,600. He also participated in the 38th WSOP, finishing seventh and earning $12,776 at the Shootout-Limit Hold’em event.
Year 2008 started off well for David Baker as he bagged $33,060 in February, by finishing fourth in the No Limit Hold’em event of the WPT Season 6 at the LA Poker Classic. April 2008 saw him making more dough, he ranked second in the No-Limit Hold’em event of the 6th Annual Five-Star World Poker Classic tournament and walked away with $230,580. In the same tournament David Baker earned $26,060 by finishing fourth in the No-Limit Hold’em event. In June 2008, he made $78,624 by finishing third at the final tables of the Limit Hold’em event of the 39th WSOP.
