Darius Vassell, a professional football player, was born on June 13, 1980 in Sutton Coldfield, which is located in Birmingham, England.
Darius Vassell was brought up by his Jamaican parents in Wylde Green and completed his primary education from Yenton Primary School in Erdington, after which he attended the John Willmott School, in Falcon Lodge, Sutton Coldfield.
Darius Vassell represented England on the International arena from 2002 to 2004, making his debut for the national side on February 13, 2002 in a 1-1 draw with Netherlands. He scored the equalizing goal with a bicycle kick on the 60th minute of the game and was named Man of the Match for his impressive performance. This resulted in him being included in the nation’s 2002 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup campaign. Darius Vassell started in England’s opening group game against Sweden and went on to play two more games in the tournament. He was also a member of England’s squad for the European Championships in 2004. He has won a total of 22 international caps with six international goals to his credit.
Darius Vassell started playing football with Romulus, which was a local junior team in the Birmingham Boys League and netted an overwhelming forty six goals in one season that included six goals from one match. These impressive performances in that club earned Darius Vassell a transfer with the Aston Villa youth team and this marked the beginning of his professional football career.
During his tenure with Aston Villa’s youth team, Darius Vassell set a record by scoring thirty nine goals in a single season. Following this, he was taken into the first team and he made his maiden appearance for this team in August 1998 by coming on as a substitute in a match against Middlesbrough. He played with Aston Villa from 1997 to 2005 making 162 appearances and had 35 goals to his credit.
After a long stint with Aston Villa, Darius Vassell signed a £2 million contract with Manchester City on July 27, 2005. In his very first season at the club, he netted eight goals from 35 league appearances and helped his team to reach the final of the Football Association (FA) Challenge Cup by scoring two goals in his five games at the tournament. On February 10, 2008, Darius Vassell scored his fiftieth Premier League goal in a victorious encounter against arch rival Manchester United, and after two months he netted an opening goal in a match against Portsmouth. As of 2008, he currently plays as a forward for Manchester City wearing the squad number 12 and has made 17 goals from 95 appearances for the club.
