Danny Pugh, an English professional footballer, was born on October 19, 1982 in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport. This left-footed midfielder is nicknamed “Pughy” and can play both at the left-back and left-midfield positions on the field. His vital attributes, good pace and comfortableness on the ball, has made him excel both in defence and midfield.
Danny Pugh started off his career in football by joining the Manchester United Football Club (F.C.) in 2002 and went on to become a first-team member. During his two-year stay with the club, he played seven matches at Old Trafford, including three in the Champions League. In 2004, Danny Pugh was signed by Kevin Blackwell, the then manager of Leeds United, becoming the first player to be signed by him as a part-exchange for Alan Smith, former Leeds player. Due to his ability to play on the left of midfield or defence, Danny Pugh was signed as a utility player and became the pivotal figure in the Leeds team.
Danny Pugh started his stint at Leeds in the left-midfield position in a 4-4-2 formation for the first half of the season and was one of the top scorers for Leeds United before shifting to the left-fullback positions. In his two-year stint with the club, he made 50 appearances and scored five goals.
In June 2006, Danny Pugh moved to Preston North End and established himself as a regular member in the first team. He made his first appearance for the club in a match against Coventry City. He made 52 appearances, mostly playing off the left flank and occasionally in the central midfield, and has scored four goals.
On November 2, 2007 Stoke City signed Danny Pugh on loan and he made the move permanent on January 3, 2008 by agreeing to a £500,000 deal. Following this, he was employed in the left-back, left-midfield and centre-midfield positions by Stoke City manager Tony Pulis. As of May 2008, Danny Pugh has played 16 matches for the club and has won the Man of the Match awards in games against Watford and Newcastle.
