Daniel Pritzker – Life at a Glance

Daniel Pritzker (born 1959) is one of the celebrated billionaires of modern America. He is the scion of the famous Pritzker family of Chicago. He ranks 236th on the Forbes 400 list of ‘The 400 Richest Americans 2009’. His estimated wealth is $1.5 billion. He derives his wealth from his inheritance which includes hotels, investment and more.

Daniel’s father Jay Pritzker co-founded the industrial conglomeration – the Marmon Group and Global Hyatt (a hotel chain). The Superior Bank of Chicago, the TransUnion Credit Bureau, and the Royal Caribbean Cruise lines are his family’s other business interests.

Education

Daniel graduated from the Tufts University, Boston, with a Bachelor degree in Arts & Science in 1981. He received a Doctorate degree on Jurisprudence from Northwestern University School of Law, Chicago, in the year 1986.

Other Interests

During his formative years, Daniel developed a deep interest in playing guitar and writing songs. He is a connoisseur of American music. He, along with the trio – Michal Scott, Paris Delane, and Sam Hogen – founded the Chicago-based musical band Sonia Dada, which had its rooting in Rock, Soul, Blues, and Gospel. The band showcased the song writing talent of Daniel and released successful albums, thereby carving a niche for itself in the Chicago musical scene for the past 20 years. Barefoot Soul (in 2002) and Test Pattern (in 2004) are some of the musical hits of the band.

Daniel also made his entry into tinsel town. He scripted and directed a feature film (Bolden), and a silent film (Louis) on jazz with music composed by Wynton Marsalis.

Daniel is also actively involved in for social welfare. He and his wife, Karen, are trustees of the Jay Pritzker Foundation that constituted the $5 million Pritzker Foundation Challenge, which gives financial aid for under-privileged students who otherwise wouldn’t make it to Tufts University.
