As an undergraduate and graduate student at Sonoma State University, Danielle Bruns fully immersed herself in the institution’s academic and social culture. Entering the university as a college freshman, Danielle Bruns displayed a marked dedication to her studies, enrolling in a rigorous history program that allowed her to complete a Master’s degree in five years. As a graduate student at Sonoma State University, Danielle Bruns selected United States history and women and gender as areas of specific focus, undertaking a comprehensive examination in order to obtain her degree.
During this period of time, Danielle Bruns took part in the TRADITION project, an initiative designed to promote American history education. As a participant in the TRADITION program, Danielle Bruns employed California State Standards to develop an innovative curriculum applicable in a wide variety of classroom settings. Moreover, Danielle Bruns improved English Language Development (ELD) criterion in the classrooms where she taught, also creating new strategies to encourage increased literacy. In order to accomplish this, Danielle Bruns utilized the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) model, an innovative tool that encourages language and knowledge acquisition in students categorized as English as a Second Language (ESL).
Following her numerous accomplishments in graduate school, Danielle Bruns accepted a position as a Social Science Teacher at Sonoma State University’s Upward Bound Program in the Summer Academy and Saturday Academy. Facilitating Upward Bound’s activities, Danielle Bruns provided fundamental support to students preparing for a successful college career. Working with youth from low-income backgrounds, Danielle Bruns designed and implemented lesson plans in African social studies and health science.
Danielle Bruns moved on to instruct students at Novato High School, Maria Carrillo High School, and Santa Rosa Junior College. Currently maintaining a position as an educator at Santa Rosa Junior College, Danielle Bruns continues to inspire young minds through the simple, yet meaningful act of sharing knowledge.
