About Daneil Vettori

Daniel Vettori is a 29-year-old professional cricketer from Auckand, New Zealand. Vettori is the captain of the New Zealand national team and he also holds the distinction of being the youngest man to play Test cricket for New Zealand. Widely regarded as one of the best and most disciplined spin bowler in the world, Vettori is also one of the most experienced cricketers on the international circuit.

Daniel Vettori, along with Sir Richard Hadlee and Chris Cairns, are the only New Zealanders to have picked up 200 Test wickets and score 2,000 runs.

Vettori’s mastery over flight and pace have more than made up for his lack of spin, making him one of New Zealand’s most dangerous players and their main strike bowler. One of Daniel Vettpri’s most memorable Test performances cam against Australia in 2000, where he picked up his first ten-wicket haul, leaving the Aussies bamboozled with figures of 12 for 149. Vettori continued his sparkling from and he ran through the Bangladeshis during a two-match Test series, ending up with 20 for 224 over both matches. Vettori has also been a more than useful lower order batsman for New Zealand, having picked up two Test centuries.

Daniel Vettori has been equally impressive at the One-Day level due to his disciplined line and length and versatility with the bat. He was one of six players to be named in the World XI Test and One-Day teams and as of October 2008, he is ranked 1st on the International Cricket Council’s list of top ODI bowlers. Vettori took over captaincy of the national side after long time captain Stephen Fleming, also one of the country’s most successful skippers ever, relinquished the post.

Vettori’s adaptability and versatility have also made him an ideal fit for the Twenty20 format. In the inaugural season on the Indian Premier League, Daniel Vettori was part of the Delhi Daredevils team. With a career economy rate of 5.50, unheard of in T20, and one four-wicket haul, Vettori was a key contributor in the Daredevils’ third place finish in the IPL.
