Cuong Van Do is a young, up-and-coming poker player from Toronto, Canada. Still new to the world of professional poker, Van Do did get noticed when he came out of nowhere to register an impressive performance at the 37th World Series of Poker in July 2006.
In a field that featured a record 8,773, including poker stars like Allen Cunningham and Jamie Gold, and with a prize pool of an astounding $82,512,162 to play for, Cuong Van Do slowly picked his way through the field and soon made his way into the money. With title threats like 2005 champion Joe Hachem falling by the wayside, Van Do took the opportunity to move further up and eventually finished in 30th place to mop up impressive earnings of $329,865. Jamie Gold eventually won the main event and took home a massive $12 million as prize money.
