Book printing tips for beginners
If you are a beginner, you are probably unaware of the hassles encountered during book printing. You could be tempted to think that once you have written and edited your manuscript, the next thing is to submit it to a printing company and you have your hard copy book ready for sale. However, the process is not really that simple. By the time your book is getting printed, you will probably have modified your manuscript so many times and assessed so many printing companies in a bid to find the right one. If you are a beginner, here are some tips you might want to keep in mind.
Keep your page count as low as possible: When it comes to printing a book, it is not the volume that matters but the content. If you feel the need to fill up so many pages with information that is no necessary or to insert blank pages, don’t. You will pay for every single page on your book so if you can find a way to condense it, the better. Also, if you can use lower grade but good quality paper, go for it. This will ensure that you save some necessary bucks in the
book printing process.
Keep it simple: This is a tip that applies in almost all business areas and it is very necessary in book printing. The only other mistake you can make aside from a boring cover when it comes to printing your book; is overdesigning for the book printing company. Avoid at all costs coming up with a dramatic cover for your book. Not only will it cost you more but it will also make your book look unprofessional. As for the size, also keep it simple and standard especially if you intend to use digital run presses. This is because they pay a fee for every paper running though the press and as such, a page that doubles up as two in a typical web book is unfriendly and costly.
Avoid mixing and matching inks: If you are doing color book printing, by all means stick to one ink type. Any other color printing company will use CYMK for the covers and the text that is in color. If you mix colors, the printing will either end up being expensive or the colors will fail to match and default to another undesired color.
Go through the book printing files before you send them to the book printing company: As a rule, ensure that your book printing files are in perfect order and in the way you want them to be before sending them to the printing company. Spell check and read through for any errors. Ensure you do not send any pages that do not need printing and also send the text file different from the cover file. Compress your files in WinRar or WinZip in order to retain the formats as they are when emailing or uploading. Also send the documents to your book printing company in printer friendly formats in order to eliminate printing errors as much as possible.
