Career
Colleen Barney became a partner of Albrecht & Barney of Irvine, California in 1997, only three years after beginning her law career. She has since become the managing partner responsible for day to day management of the law firm in addition to developing, meeting and working for clients with respect to their estate plans. Colleen has been the largest business originator for the firm for the past 4 years and was the youngest certified specialist in California in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate law at the time she received the designation.
Education
Prior to beginning at Albrecht & Barney, Colleen Barney graduated magna cum laude from Central Michigan University with her bachelor’s degree in history and philosophy. She then enrolled at the University of Michigan Law School to study Law. Colleen’s was a model student, working full-time working towards her degree. Barney was the Vice President of the Intellectual Property Students Association, the President of the Sports Law Society, the Vice President of the Student Senate, and the Graduate Student Liaison for the Board in Control of Intercollegiate Athletics. Barney obtained her Juris Doctor with a 3.0+ GPA, and was rewarded the Irving Stenn Award. She continued her education of law at the University of San Diego, where she completed her Master of Laws in Taxation. Colleen Barney donates to American Cancer Society and the University of Michigan, and has worked on the Board of Human Options.
Non-Profit Involvement
It is important for her to be a humanitarian, and has even collected and distributed materials to Tanzania’s Poli Village School. Barney is also Parliamentarian on the PTA board at Newport Heights Elementary School, and is serving her 4th year on the GATE Parent Advisory Committee for Newport Mesa Unified School District.
