About Clive Spiegler
Clive Spiegler is no stranger to traveling and working outside of his native England. He has held positions of increasing responsibility and has a record of over 18 years of success working for pharmaceutical companies in France, Switzerland, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Clive Spiegler was educated in England, France, and Switzerland, earning his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Zurich in 1993.
Clive Spiegler has served UCB Celltech, a branch of Brussels-based UCB, S.A., since 2005. Clive Spiegler operates out of UCB Celltech’s facility in Slough, where he acts as the Senior Director of New Product Planning. Clive Spiegler began working in the pharmaceuticals industry while still an undergraduate. In his third year of study, Clive Spiegler worked for Alcon, Inc. in Kaysersberg, France, and later in the Department of Analytical Chemistry at the School of Pharmacy in Strasbourg.
After receiving his Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours in Chemistry, he returned to the School of Pharmacy in Strasbourg to study for his Diplôme D'Etudes Approfondies in Pharmacology and Medicinal Chemistry, and later obtained his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Zurich. Soon after graduating in 1993, Clive Spiegler found himself on the other side of the Atlantic, working for F. Hoffman-La Roche in Nutley, New Jersey. He completed his time there as Project Manager and then International Project Leader for the HIV protease inhibitor saquinavir. Saquinavir was approved by the FDA and Europe’s equivalent licensing authority under the trade name Invirase and Fortovase (soft gel formulation).
After nearly a decade in the United States, working for various pharmaceuticals firms, Clive Spiegler returned to England to work for Abbott Laboratories in Maidenhead. In 2005, Clive Spiegler joined UCB Celltech as Global Brand Director and later took on the additional role as Development and Commercialization Team Leader, leading the successful effort to prepare and file a Biologics License Application for the drug Cimzia. After Clive Spiegler’s successful efforts in the development, application process, and subsequent marketing of Cimzia for rheumatoid arthritis, he joined New Product Planning for UCB Celltech as Senior Director in the area of Immunology.
