About Cliff Newman
Dr. Cliff Newman claims more than 10 years of clinical psychiatric experience. At his Centreville, Virginia-based private practice, Fairfax Psychiatry of Centreville, Dr. Newman uses a combination of medication and psychotherapy to create a treatment plan matched to each patient’s needs. In his time, Dr. Newman has assisted his adult patients with a wide variety of conditions, including depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and a range of personality disorders.
As an undergraduate, Dr. Cliff Newman completed psychological studies at the University of Rochester. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the New York-based institution in June of 1989. Dr. Newman subsequently continued his education in Israel, at the Sackler Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University. After obtaining his medical degree, Dr. Newman returned to the United States and completed a four-year residency in psychiatry at the University of Virginia. He followed this with another year of studies at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., developing his skills in the specialty field of consultation-liaison psychiatry.
To stay in touch with the ever-changing field of psychiatry, Dr. Cliff Newman maintains membership with the Washington Psychiatric Society and the American Psychiatric Association. Before pursuing his specialty studies at Georgetown University, Dr. Newman belonged to the Mental Health Association of Southwest Virginia and the Psychiatric Society of Virginia.
In addition to the time spent at his private practice, Dr. Cliff Newman currently serves as Staff Psychiatrist at Inova Fairfax Hospital, the flagship hospital of the Inova Health System, which serves the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. Dr. Newman has previously held the position of Staff Psychiatrist at Catawba State Hospital in Catawba, Virginia, and Culpeper Regional Hospital in Culpeper, Virginia, and performed community service as a Staff Psychiatrist for community mental health clinics in Alexandria and Reston, Virginia.
