mastiff dogs

Man has always been fascinated by one of the friendliest animals ever, dog. The story of the dog is as old as the story of man himself. It is a fact known to all the people that dog was one among the earliest pets man had. In the present day world, where relationships are breaking apart and everybody is busy building their own lives, pets have gained an importance much more than before. If you are one among those people who have always longed for a pet that is friendly and can also keep you safe from the intruders, then a dog is what you need. In the sections to follow, I will provide you with reasons as to why choosing a mastiff as your pet would be the right decision.

The mastiff falls under the category of guard dogs if one has to broadly classify the dogs on the purpose of their breeding. The history of the mastiff is almost 200 years old, with it being said to have had its origin from the sheep dogs of the olden times. England is said to be the homeland of these dogs and they have been famous over the years for the ferocious looks they possess. The largest mastiff is the English mastiff that weighs well over 200 pounds when it matures completely.

On the outlook, a mastiff may look a little clumsy and drowsy, but they are real beast when they are provoked. So never mistake a mastiff to be a calm creature and mess with it. The different versions of the mastiff that have been developed over the years to provide it with more ferocious looks are the English mastiffs, the Brazilian mastiff, the American bandog mastiff and Victorian mastiff. However, each mastiff varies in size according to the local conditions and the way it has been cross bred.

It is rightly said that with position comes responsibility. Talking from the context of mastiffs, there are a few points you need to consider before you make up your mind to have one at your home. These beasts require a lot of food of their own types to satisfy their needs. They are known to be real wild breeds and hence in case they are not trained properly in their initial days, they may prove to be real maniacs once they grow up to the maximum size. One more aspect about the mastiff, which I find very funny, is the loud snoring noise they produce when they are asleep.

The fear about having a mastiff at home, is that they are more prone to heart related diseases. The veterinary doctors have confirmed this and have attributed this phenomenon to the oversize of the dogs.
