About Charlotte Hatfield
With over 30 years of experience as an instructor and communications professional, and most recently as an administrator in higher education, Charlotte Hatfield, Ph.D., possesses vast knowledge and skills for executive-level management in a community college setting. Dr. Hatfield has a strong background in fiscal management and campus planning, and has been responsible for creating a leadership structure for staff and faculty. She also holds strong experience in creating sustainable partnerships, both inside and outside the college setting. Charlotte Hatfield studied at the University of Texas at Austin in the Community College Leadership Program and was awarded her Ph.D. upon defending her dissertation, “The Community Role of the Community College President.”
Charlotte Hatfield is currently a Consultant for Washington State Community College (WSCC) in Marietta, Ohio. From 2002 to 2011, she served as the fifth President of WSCC, a small rural campus founded in 1971 that serves a mix of students seeking associate degrees, professional certifications, and vocational training. During her tenure, Charlotte Hatfield initiated a number of legacy programs, including creating the capacity for WSCC to offer online courses, starting the Morgan County Learning Center and founding the Washington State Community College Foundation for continued giving by alumni and corporate donors. Before her term at WSCC, Dr. Hatfield was Executive Dean at Ivy Tech Community College in Elkhart, Indiana. There, she successfully implemented several programs, including the creation of an instructional outreach center for underserved populations.
Prior to her career as an administrator, Charlotte Hatfield spent a number of years as a communications and public relations professional. Before serving as Dean for Ivy Tech’s Elkhart campus, she was Executive Director for Public Relations and Marketing for the statewide Ivy Tech Community College system, which is made up of almost 165,000 students. Dr. Hatfield was also Manager of Media and Public Relations for Methodist Health Group in Indianapolis, in charge of steering communication efforts for a group that included the fifth largest private hospital in the United States.
Along with her background as an executive and communications manager, Charlotte Hatfield has spent a great deal of time in the classroom. She was an Associate Professor of Journalism at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, for nine years. Before earning her Ph.D., Charlotte Hatfield studied Journalism at the University of Texas for both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
