About Charles Jett


Charles Jett, an American professional poker player, is well known by his poker pseudonym “Chip Jett”. He was born on 22 September, 1974 in Scottsdale, Arizona and made his livelihood as a lifeguard at a local pool before taking to poker. In 2003, Charles Jett married fellow poker queen Karina, whom he met at the final table of the 2005 London Open played at the Old Billingsgate Market. Currently, he lives in Las Vegas, Nevada with his wife and two kids, daughter Athena and son Apollo.


Charles Jett tried his hand at poker, when he was invited by one of his friends to a local Indian casino. Though he lost in his first attempt at poker, his interest in the game was kindled when he saw the amount of money the dealers were making and so decided to enroll in a dealer school. Just after three months, Charles Jett got a job at the Fort McDowell Casino and was also teaching at the dealer school. He worked as a proposition player and dealer at the casino for six years. He learned the strategies and nuances of the game, sharpened his skills, and by the age of 21 became a poker pro.


Charles Jett made his mark in the poker world with his prominent successes in 2001 at the LA Poker Classic, hosted by the Commerce Casino. In that year he made final table appearances in five tournaments, including Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo, Omaha Hi-Lo, H.O.R.S.E, Seven Card Stud, and No-Limit Hold'em. He won the tournament’s best all-around player award for his outstanding performance. After his breathtaking final winnings in 2001, Charles Jett went on to win three tournaments in 2002. He made to the final table in the World Poker Finals and in Grand Slam of Poker tournament. Between 2003 and 2005, Charles Jett steadily climbed the ladder by winning over a million dollars. In the 2005 World Series of Poker (WSOP), he took part in Event 23, $5,000 Seven Card Stud and won the second runner-up title to earn prize money worth $99,265.


Charles Jett made his appearance in the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP) and participated in Event 14 No-Limit Hold'em w/re-buys to earn $11,589 in prize money. In the the Borgata Poker Classic, he won tournament prize money worth $27,694. He entered the 2007 World Series of Poker and completed third in Event 51, S.H.O.E. and walked away with cash money worth $55,801. In July 2007, Charles Jett participated in the 38th Annual World Series of Poker Tournament and finished in third place in Event 55 - No-Limit Texas Hold'em. Known for his fearless play, he earned tournament prize money worth $34,664 for that event. Later in 2008, he entered the 39th Annual World Series of Poker and took part in Event 54 - No-Limit Texas Hold'em and earned $41,816 in prize money.


Charles Jett plays online at PokerStars under the screen name “capnncoke”. He has also appeared in several publications, including Sports Illustrated and on the cover of Poker Digest. To commemorate poker pros, Charles Jett has released a deck of cards in which he was featured as the ace of spades. Besides playing at tables, he writes articles for Card Player Magazine. He enjoys his free time with family, or by indulging in woodworking and do-it-yourself projects.
