The biography of Chamara Silva will be updated shortlyChamara Silva is a 28-year-old professional cricket player from Panadura, Sri Lanka. A beneficiary of the youth policy adopted by Sri Lankan chairman of selectors, Sidath Wettimuny, Silva made his international debut for Sri Lanka as a slim 19-year-old in 1999 against the mighty Australians. Chamara Silva holds an impressive domestic record for Panadura Cricket Club in Sri Lanka, which he captains. Silva was also a member of the Deccan Chargers in the first season of the Indian Premier League.

Chamara Silva kicked off his international career on a promising note, scoring 54 on debut against the Australian. The feat was all the more praise-worthy as his team was tottering at 97 for 5 when he took to the crease. Silva’s batting stance and strokes often draw comparisons to Sri Lankan batting great Aravinda de Silva. However, Silva has failed to cement his place in the Sri Lankan team.

After being dropped from the national side, Chamara Silva showed his worth at the domestic level, first with impressive performances with the bat for Panadura Cricket Club, where he was also the captain. In 2004-05, Silva moved to Sebastianites, where his impressive displays continued. His performances drew the attention of Sri Lanka’s new coach, Tom Moody. After a being picked for the Sri Lanka A team, Chamara Silva made a successful international return on Sri Lanka’s tour of India. Silva also registered his maiden ODI century on Indian soil.

Chamara Silva made a forgettable Test debut for Sri Lanka on their tour to New Zealand, earning a pair in his team’s first Test defeat. He however, bounced back in the second Test, scoring 61 in the first innings and a blistering 152 not out in the second.

With his international career going strong, Chamara Silva signed up with the Deccan Chargers for the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League, an eight-team Twenty20 championship featuring the world’s best players. Chamara Silva has had an uneventful Twenty20 career and that continued at the IPL, where he was in and out of the team. Silva has a career T20 batting average of 22 at a respectable strike rate of 104.
