In 1990, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney moved to the United States after receiving her medical degree from the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. She did obgyn clerkships and sub internships at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and subsequently did her residency at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, prior to accepting a residency through The John Hopkins Hospital. During this time, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney served as the hospital’s representative to the ACOG and eventually became the Vice-Chairman and then Chairman for the Maryland Section of the organization.

In 1997, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney undertook a fellowship through the University of California, Irvine, at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center in both Long Beach and Orange, California. In the same year, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney also began working as a Manuscript Reviewer for the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Today, she provides care for women with high-risk pregnancies as a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist for the Obstetrix Medical Group in San Jose, California. Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney currently resides in California. When not working, she enjoys hiking, running, swimming, and reading.

A respected gynecologist and obstetrician with more than 15 years of experience, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney currently serves as a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist with the Obstetrix Medical Group, operating out of San Jose, California. In 1983, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney began her medical career, conducting her pre-med studies at the Sigtuna Foundation (Sigtunastiftelsen) in Sigtuna, Sweden. Following this role, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney enrolled at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, and worked toward her medical degree. After graduating from Karolinska Institutet in 1990, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney decided to move to the United States. Through an International Medical Student Exchange Scholarship, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney studied reproductive endocrinology through a sub-internship with Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. In 1993, she started her residency in gynecology and obstetrics at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1997, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney accepted a Fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of California, Irvine, operating out of both Orange and Long Beach, California. During this period, she also worked as a Manuscript Reviewer for the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology. She functioned in both of these roles for three years before becoming a Staff Perinatologist with the California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, California. Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney also acted in this role at Kaiser Permanente in Northern California. In 2002, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney began teaching clinical obstetrics and gynecology as an Assistant Professor with the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine in Los Angeles, California. Additionally, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney served as an Assistant Professor for the University of California, Irvine, in Orange, California. Since 2005, Dr. Cecilia Gaffaney has worked with the Teratology Society, which is devoted to the study and prevention of abnormal birth defects. She also serves on both the Research and Education committees for the Organization of Teratology Information Specialists and remains an active member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
