Catherine Bartlett - Professional Summary:     A Court of Claims judge for New York State since 2005, Catherine Bartlett’s commitment to the legal system extends beyond the workings of the court. Catherine Bartlett also contributes to a number of educational initiatives, both within and without the legal system. Prior to serving on the Court of Claims, Catherine Bartlett held the position of County Attorney and Chief Administrative Officer for Orange County, New York. This position involved representing the county in litigation and contract disputes, as well as managing government operations, a $695 million budget, and over 2000 employees. In 2002, Catherine Bartlett also sponsored Senior Law Day, established to educate seniors about their rights and help them with legal issues related to their particular situations. Catherine Bartlett was honored with the title of Orange County Woman of Achievement for her work as the Senior Law Day committee coordinator and her other professional and community efforts. Furthermore, Catherine Bartlett sits on the state’s wrongful convictions committee. As a volunteer, Catherine Bartlett is also involved with several education programs. For example, Catherine Bartlett participates in mock trials and moot courts for high school and university students. Catherine Bartlett is also a volunteer for the American Legion Auxiliary, whose Teen Court program offers an alternative to the court system for young offenders who have committed minor offenses. Catherine Bartlett’s interest in legal education is derived from her concern that poor people and minorities do not have the same access to court services as the rest of society. Through education, both within the judicial system and in the broader community, Catherine Bartlett works toward rectifying this situation.
