Entrepreneur, author, and former PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLC (PwC), corporate restructuring guru Carter Pate presently acts as Chief Executive Officer of MV Transportation, Inc. Mr. Pate also acts as CEO of MV Transportation’s subsidiaries and serves on the Board of Directors. During his tenure with PwC, Carter Pate led several divisions, culminating in a role as the Global Managing Partner for the capital projects, infrastructure, and government practices at the company’s New York branch.
A leading provider of paratransit services, MV Transportation, Inc., headquartered in Fairfield, California, is also the country’s largest transportation-contracting firm that is privately owned. In his capacity as the CEO, Carter Pate directs over 13,000 employees and supervises the operations of more than 190 Medicaid, shuttle, fixed-route, and paratransit contracts in 26 states, the District of Columbia, and British Columbia.
Before joining PwC, Carter Pate was a Founding Partner of Pate, Winters & Stone. The company specialized in providing corporate restructuring and crisis management advice to such clients as Sun Coast Industries, which Mr. Pate served as Interim President, CEO, and a member of the Board of Directors from 1993 to 1996. Carter Pate led a 103.7% stock price increase for Sun Coast Industries, allowing it to move from the NASDAQ exchange to the New York Stock Exchange; he went on to accept his first position at PwC in 1996.
In addition to his professional pursuits at PwC and other companies, Carter Pate and Harlan Platt co-authored the 2002 book The Phoenix Effect: 9 Revitalizing Strategies No Business Can Do Without. Published simultaneously in the United States and Canada by John Wiley & Sons, Inc., The Phoenix Effect remains in use in business school courses across the country, including a course at Southern Methodist University that features its content. The holder of Top Secret clearance from the US government, Carter Pate is also licensed as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Washington, D.C.; Virginia; Texas; and New York, and also holds his Certified Fraud Examiner license.
