Carlos Fuenmayor

Carlos Fuenmayor is the founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of BancTrust & Co., a global, privately-owned investment banking firm with headquarters in New York City. Overseeing BancTrust & Co.’s growing worldwide operations, Carlos Fuenmayor charts the company’s strategies and future direction. Carlos Fuenmayor also heads his company’s Global Markets team which assists clients with services such as sales support, research on markets and investments, and trading activities. 

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the Universidad Santa Maria in Caracas, Venezuela, Carlos Fuenmayor began his career in corporate finance at KPMG LLP, a multinational firm that offers audit, advisory, and tax services. After gaining experience at KPMG, Carlos Fuenmayor worked in global finance as an International Financial Advisor for Mutual of New York. His next position was with Merrill Lynch, where he was the lead for the Investor Services Unit at the company’s Venezuela branch. Following his time at Merrill Lynch, Mr. Fuenmayor worked in the private banking sector for Citibank (now Citigroup Inc.), after which he established BancTrust & Co. in 2003.

What began as a small group of trusted financial advisors specializing in independent asset management for Latin American clients has since grown into a global organization specializing in Wealth Management, with operations in various parts of the world. Some of Carlos Fuenmayor’s accomplishments at BancTrust & Co. include developing a $350 million securitization program within the Oil and Gas sector in Latin America as well as working on restructuring transactions worth more than $4 billion.
