Carlos Edwards, an international football player, was born on October 24, 1978 in Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago and attended St Anthony's College in Westmoorings.
Carlos Edwards represents Trinidad and Tobago at the international level and was included in the first time in 1999 and has been playing regularly since then. Carlos Edwards was called up to the country’s national football team to play at the 2006 World Cup that was held in Germany. During this World Cup, he played his first match of the tournament against Sweden and was named Man of the Match for his impressive performance, despite tough competition from the well-known Swedish player, Zlatan Ibrahimovi?.
Carlos Edwards went on to play in Trinidad’s other two games, against England and Paraguay, and was appreciated by many for his game play. He is known for his speed and trickery on the ball and is considered to be one of the consistent players on the national side. Since his inclusion into the national team in 1999, Carlos Edwards has won sixty one international caps with one goal to his credit.
Carlos Edwards started playing football with the Patna United football club in 1996, and in 1998 he moved to Queen’s Park Rangers. The following season, he joined Defence Force football club, which is located in Trinidad and Tobago, after which he signed to play for Wrexham Association Football Club for £250,000 in 2000. Carlos Edwards played for five years with this club scoring 23 goals from 165 appearances and was a part of the team that won the Football League Trophy.
In 2005, Carlos Edwards made a move to Championship side Luton Town on a Bosman transfer and went on to win the Young Members Player of the Season award during his first season at the club. His career at Luton Town lasted for two years and he has scored eight goals from sixty eight games.
On January 2, 2007, the Sunderland football club bought Carlos Edwards from Luton Town on a three-and-a-half-year contract that was worth £1.5 million, and this striker was given the number 7 jersey. He marked the beginning of his career at Sunderland with goal-scoring performances against Sheffield Wednesday, Coventry City and Birmingham City. In the club’s matches against Southampton and Burnley, Carlos Edwards scored a goal each and helped in his team’s promotion into the Premier League. As of 2008, he has made twenty eight appearances for the club and has five goals to his credit.
