A Programme and Change Management specialist with substantial experience of successfully managing and delivering transformational change programmes for the NHS, the Department of Health and social care clients.  Achievements over the past 20 years include:

  • developing and implementing transformational and strategic change programmes, including cost-saving, procurement and performance improvement initiatives, for the DH, NHS, and local government
  • pioneering strategic development programmes to support the first wave of NHS reforms in commissioning and contracting
  • developing key strategic business cases supporting major ICT infrastructure including the NHS Strategic Tracing Service and the Community Health Services Commissioning dataset
  • devising the first formal information governance protocols around sharing personal and clinical data across health and social care organisations
  • co-developing and implementing the “Positively Diverse” change management methodology which was widely adopted by the NHS in 2001
  • maximising the benefit of project, programme and change management techniques in public sector environments.

Having a “big 4” consultancy background he has worked with public and private sector clients at all levels, providing strategic guidance through to hands-on programme and operational support. Most recently he has supported health and social care clients in finding new ways to gain improvements in efficiency and productivity. This has included an intense focus on improving workflows and commissioning / procurement capability, stakeholder management, business case development, strategy reviews, dataset development, defining quality standards and improving internal change management processes. A passionate advocate of professional change and programme management, he has applied innovative techniques, including Agile and Lean, to more traditional approaches such as PRINCE2 and MSP.

  • has supported a wide range of organisations helping them to develop and implement new ways of working to improve service quality, increase efficiency and reduce costs, including:
    • working with nurses and therapists to design and implement more efficient and cost-effective care pathways
    • evaluating and promoting telehealth and telecare solutions for community health services
    • piloting and implementing mobile technology for clinicians for use in service users’ homes
    • developing guidance on how to improve day-to-day working practices for clinicians in key areas such as end-of-life-care, rehabilitation, long-term conditions etc
    • implementing tighter controls in contract management for health and social care commissioners
    • developing strategic approaches to commissioning health and social care, based on better use of management information and demand modelling
    • developing and implementing a new HR change management process, which was adopted nationally by the NHS.
  • has written and contributed to several corporate and national business cases and ICT and HR strategies
