About Brandon Slone
Brandon Slone, a 13-year veteran educator at Grosse Pointe South High School in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, received a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Oakland University in Auburn Hills, Michigan in 2010. He previously attended Wayne State University in Detroit, where he earned a Master of Education in 2000, with a focus on educational leadership. During his time at Wayne State, Brandon Slone attended classes dealing with organizational studies and educational administration. He pursued undergraduate studies at Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan, where he completed a double-major program in history and speech in 1997.
Certified at both the elementary and secondary school levels, Mr. Slone is also licensed to teach history and language arts. Between 1998 and 2006, he taught social studies at Grosse Pointe South, focusing on American government, legal systems, and civics, as well as U.S. and world history. Brandon Slone endeavored to increase student motivation by designing a set of strategies to help students remain involved in their studies. He also created an assessment method that was shared with other teachers in his department.
Mr. Slone was appointed Chair of the Social Studies Department in 2004. During his two years of service, he supervised the department’s supplies budget, as well as the budgets for textbooks and related materials. As an integral part of the hiring process for new teachers, he took part in interviews and led department meetings. Brandon Slone aided teachers with curriculum and instruction, as well as serving on the high school’s scheduling committee.
Professionally, Brandon Slone affiliates with the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals; the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development; the Michigan Council for the Social Studies; and Kappa Delta Pi, an international educational honor society. In addition, Mr. Slone holds membership in the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan.
