About Blumer Elano


Blumer Elano, a Brazilian international footballer, was born on June 14, 1981 in Iracemapolis. He became a part of Brazil national football team in January 2004 and scored his first two international goals in a friendly match against Argentina on September 3, 2006. Blumer Elano has played 4 games in 2007 Copa America including the final, in which he assisted in a goal, which lead to Brazil 3-0 victory and his team bagged the cup.


Blumer Elano started his youth career in Guarani Campinas at Sao Paulo and later spent a short spell in Inter de Limeira. In 2001, he moved to the senior club of Santos, the former club of Pele, and was a part of the 2002 and 2004 Campeonato Brasileiro championship winning team. During his stint with the club, Blumer Elano has appeared in 131 matches scoring 33 goals in total. His good performances in Santos have yielded him a contract with Shakhtar Donetsk, a Ukraine Football Club. During his tenure in the team, Shakhtar Donetsk won the 2005-06 Ukrainian Championship and the 2006 Ukrainian Super Cup. Blumer Elano has appeared in 48 matches for the club and has 14 goals to his credit. He became the first player from the Ukrainian Premier League to be featured in the Brazilian national team when he was named in the national squad on August 16, 2006.


On August 2, 2007 Manchester City signed Blumer Elano on a four year contract for a transfer fee of £8m. He made his debut for the club against West Ham United in which he provided a cross for the opening goal. He scored his first goal for the club on September 29, 2007 in a 3-1 victory over Newcastle United. On October 7, 2007 Blumer Elano scored a brace in a game against Middlesbrough, winning the match 3-1. Elano has scored a penalty against Birmingham City in the 3-1 match. He also scored a penalty in the 2-1 win over Sunderland and in the 2nd round of the Carling Cup, his penalty kick ended up in a goal against Bolton Wanderers. On January 16, 2008 Blumer Elano scored the winning goal in the FA Cup third round against West Ham United to take his team to the fourth round.


Blumer Elano proved to be a versatile player, playing in many positions for the club until the 2007-08 season, including the full-back position in a game against Portsmouth.


He is a long-term member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he considers religion as more important than football. He hopes to use the money from football in future to help maintain and promote the church.
