International recording star Bleona Qereti, who is best known simply as Bleona, is an award winning, multilingual artist, who has already taken her native Albania and Europe by storm, and whose sold out concerts routinely draw as many as 70,000 passionate fans to each performance. She began her career at the age of five when she was cast in “The House of Pionieri,” which was the Albanian equivalent of America’s “The Mickey Mouse Club.” By the time she was in her early teens, she was already performing sold out multi-city tours and was Albania’s highest profile artist.
While her academic father enrolled her at a private school to study finance, Bleona decided to pursue her passion for performing. “When I got to my early teens I used to sneak out of high school and go and rehearse for the shows in the city’s theater and concert house. Similar to shows running on Broadway or London’s West End, these shows had six performances a week. When the lead singer of the show fell ill, I stepped in to play a lead role. Here I was, only 14, and the whole show was based on my performance and me. After that the director of the theatre asked my father for his permission to send me to the National Festival. As a result I was given the youngest performer award”.
