With more than a decade of experience in biotechnological and pharmaceutical patent law, Binta Robinson bears responsibility for the inspection of patent applications in the fields of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals at the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Alexandria, Virginia. Binta Robinson writes the final opinions regarding patent applications, including advice about the legal and technical requirements for any particular invention compared to its predecessors. Binta Robinson holds a Juris Doctor degree from The George Washington University Law School. She has subsequently been a member of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's Legal Society. Binta Robinson received her Bachelor of Science from Spelman College and wrote her senior thesis on “Synthetic Approaches to Biodegradable Surfactants.” Binta Robinson’s academic honors include recognition as an Undergraduate Minority Access to Research Careers Honors (UMARC) Scholar while a student at Spelman and a Howard Hughes Research Fellow while she was enrolled at Hampshire College. In her role as Biochemist/Primary Patent Examiner of Intellectual Property, Binta Robinson is responsible for the careful examination and workflow of Patent Applications in the area of Biotechnological and Pharmaceutical Innovations. In her day to day activities Binta Robinson reviews patent applications to assess if they comply with format rules, patent law, and scientific law. Another essential duty is to write final opinions with advice about the legal and technical requirements for the particular invention compared with earlier ones. She additionally determines the scope of protection claimed by the inventor and performs research of relevant technologies to compare similar prior inventions.
