About Bill Rauch
Bill Rauch - Professional Summary:
A down-to-earth politician dedicated to fiscal responsibility and economic growth, Bill Rauch brought substantial experience in politics to his three terms as Mayor of Beaufort, South Carolina. Elected Mayor in 1999 after two terms as Beaufort City Councilperson, Bill Rauch kept his commitment to expand Beaufort's economy without increasing taxes, which brought a wave of prosperity and growth to the town.
Through his leadership, Bill Rauch successfully upgraded Beaufort's bond rating twice, increased the city's landmass, and freed up millions of dollars in funds by managing litigation from the previous administration. Another one of Bill Rauch's successes as Mayor of Beaufort was to open up city politics to the average citizen. In addition to overseeing the development and launch of the official City of Beaufort website, Bill Rauch pushed to make City Council meetings more accessible to the public by allowing a period for questions and answers at the beginning of every meeting.
Bill Rauch settled in Beaufort after living and working for many years in New York City. A former member of the political team for New York Mayor Ed Koch, Bill Rauch first joined Koch during his 1978 administration. Bill Rauch held the role of Advance Man for Mayor Koch's first administration, eventually becoming Press Secretary for Koch's second term. During his tenure as Press Secretary for Mayor Koch, Bill Rauch received considerable accolades for his ability to manage crisis situations and effectively communicate during administration scandals. Bill Rauch remained a close friend to Ed Koch after departing from his administration and ghostwrote Koch's bestselling autobiography.
A graduate of Harvard College, Bill Rauch began his career in the field of journalism.
