About Ben Thomas
Ben Thomas is currently a New York State Employment Counselor for the Department of Labor and provides vocational counseling, career development knowledge and testing services for individuals and groups with a wide range of capabilities, besides lending assistance in finding employment opportunities for employed, unemployed and underemployed individuals.
Career Highlights
Started Division I career at the State University of New York at Albany under Head Coach, Scott Beeten, in 2000. Later, appointed as Coordinator of Overseas Recruitment. Later, Volunteer Assistant Coach under Head Coach, Will Brown, in 2002.Moved on as Varsity Basketball and Soccer Coach at Cairo Durham High School, Cairo, New York.
Spent the Summer of 2005 working Basketball Camps' at prominent universities of US, like Stanford, Florida, Virginia, Florida State, N.C. State, UCLA, Furman, and many more.
Got the opportunity to work as Assistant coach under Chris Mowry at Santa Fe Community College, a DI Junior College in Gainesville, Florida during 2005-06. The team ranked third at the National level for 6 weeks.
In a major career jump, appointed Director of Basketball Operations and Assistant Coach of Double Pump, Inc.'s AAU team, Pump and Run. Job involved planning, organizing, and implementing their Double Pump's Collegiate Coaching Conference and Harold Pump Memorial Dinner and Golf Tournament.
Moved back home with wife and new daughter Katelyn and took a position as Assistant Coach under coach, Michael "Sugar" Ray Richardson, with the Albany Patroons, a professional franchise in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA).
His achievements got a shot-in-the-arm when he was appointed Assistant Coach under Emmanuel "Book" Richardson along side Switchy Babel, Reese, and John Smith for NYC Gauchos. Traveled the country, went undefeated for 2 plus months and won just about every major tournament on the circuit.
Obtained a position with Head Men's Basketball Coach Matt Brady and the Marist Red Foxes thoroughly enjoyed his time with the staff although the season ended short of the groups collective goals.
