Benjamin Anthony Foster, better known as Ben Foster, was born on April 3, 1983 in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.
On May 26, 2006, Robert Foster was named in the stand-by list of the English 2006 World Cup squad for the first time. He was even called up to Steve McClaren’s first England squad as one of the goalkeepers in a friendly match against Greece. After being named in every English squad after that, he finally made his debut in the international arena on February 7, 2007, in a friendly match against Spain.
Ben Foster started his football career with Racing Club Warwick in the 2000-01 season before moving to Stoke City where he was loaned to various clubs. In 2002, he was loaned to Bristol City and during the 2002-03 season, he played 16 matches for Tiverton Town F.C. In 2004, he was again loaned to Stafford Rangers and Kidderminster Harriers, and he appeared in 16 matches for Wrexham F.C. in 2005. Ben Foster was spotted by Alex Ferguson, the manager of Manchester United, in the 2005 LDV Vans Trophy Final won by Wrexham, and signed him for £1 million. He joined the club on July 19, 2005 and was loaned to Watford for two seasons. His good shot-stopping abilities helped Watford make it to the Premier League as they beat Leeds United in the Championship play-off final. His long goal-kick and confident free-kicks helped the team score goals easily, and Ben Foster proved his mettle in his first full professional season. Ben Foster debuted for Manchester United on March 15, 2008 against Derby County and was instrumental in the 1-0 win by saving two goals and thereby maintaining a clean sheet. With all his potential, Ben Foster is a goalkeeper to watch out for.
