Barney Gimbel graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia with a Reporter of the Year title from the Associated Collegiate Press, which he won as Editor in Chief of the Emory Wheel, selected out of 250 competing college journalists. While studying for his degree, Barney Gimbel held numerous reporting internships with publications around the world, including the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Cape Times in Cape Town, South Africa, and the Palm Beach Post in West Palm Beach, Florida. During his time with the Palm Beach Post, Barney Gimbel collected two more accolades from the Society of Professional Journalists. Barney Gimbel earned the Best Spot News Story award for his breaking coverage of a boating accident that seriously injured two children and the Best In-Depth Reporting award for an investigative expose on Florida's illegal treatment of certain juvenile offenders.
