Barbara Stewart

Barbara Stewart is a professional Writer, Editor, and Grant Writer with 25 years of experience working in a variety of fields, from journalism to grant writing. After studying poetics and writing at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, Barbara Stewart earned a Master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York.

 

Barbara Stewart started her career as a Staff Writer for the Sunday magazine of the Orlando Sentinel. For seven years, Barbara Stewart wrote many feature stories covering various subjects of interest across Florida. Next, Barbara Stewart spent a two-year period writing for The Washington Post’s Style Section.

 

Barbara Stewart became a Staff Writer at The New York Times in 1994. For 11 years, Barbara Stewart researched and wrote hundreds of news and feature stories for the premier national newspaper, including more than a dozen front-page articles. Barbara Stewart’s stories covered a range of subjects and appeared the Arts Section as well as The New York Times Magazine.

 

After working as a journalist for 20 years, Barbara Stewart focused on other aspects of writing. Earning a certificate in fundraising at New York University, Barbara Stewart began grant writing and editing for Lotus Outreach, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping women and children in developing countries. In 2008, Barbara Stewart secured the organization’s first grant. She then worked with legal advocacy group LatinoJustice PRLDEF, writing grant proposals and procuring $1.2 million in donations from major foundations and corporations.

 

Additionally, Barbara Stewart has edited a number of manuscripts on topics ranging from psychiatry to music. Currently residing on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, Barbara Stewart remains active at Lotus Outreach. Barbara Stewart is working on a book about the spread of Tibetan Buddhism in the West.
