Bacary Sagna, a professional football player, was born on February 14, 1983 in Sens, France. Owing to his tackling and positional ability, excellent playing style and aerial strength, Bacary Sagna usually plays as a right-side defender. He also occasionally plays centre-back, left-back and midfield positions.
Bacary Sagna has played on behalf of the French Under-21 (U-21) team at the 2006 European Under-21 Championship. He earned his first senior international cap in 2007, when he played for France in a friendly match against Slovakia and won. In October 2007, he made his debut for his motherland, France, in the UEFA Euro 2008 qualifiers at the Faroe Islands.
Bacary Sagna started his football career, when he joined the Auxerre B Club in 2002. He appeared seventeen times on behalf of this club in the Union of European Football Association (UEFA) Cup. His exceptional performance as a right-side defender earned him a place in the Ligue 1 team, for which Bacary Sagna played 87 matches. He was also a part of the winning Ligue 1 team in the 2005 French Cup.
Bacary Sagna switched to the Arsenal Club in July 2007, and, as of 2008, plays for the club sporting a number 3 shirt. He made his debut for the Arsenal’s victory match against the Turkish Club, Genclerbirligi, at Austria's Bad Waltersdorf Stadion. In his Premier League maiden appearance, Bacary Sagna took his spectators by surprise with his outstanding performance against Fulham. In March 2008, he scored his first professional goal in the first match of the Stamford Bridge tournament against Chelsea. Unfortunately, Bacary Sagna had to quit the tournament due to an ankle injury, but for his impressive first goal, his name was still included in the Paper Football Association (PFA)'s Team of the Year, and he was also ranked the fourth player of the 2007-08 season by his fans on the official Arsenal website.
Bacary Sagna has received many awards during his football career, including the Auxerre's player for the 2006–07 season, France's best right-sided defender in 2006–07, French Ligue 1's Team of the Year 2006–07, and Member of PFA Team of the Year 2007–08. He was a defender of the winning team in the Emirates Cup 2007 and the Amsterdam Tournament in 2007 and 2008. In the Trophee des Champions’ tournament held in 2005, his team secured the runner-up title.
Bacary Sagna aspires to win the Premier League title for the Arsenal Club. He is a very modest guy and attributes his success to fellow professional football players Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Eboue and Justin Hoyte.
