Argiris Malapanis - Professional Summary:     A Ph.D. candidate in the College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at the University at Albany, State University of New York, Argiris Malapanis has focused his research on carbon nanotubes for the past three years. Frequently published over the last two years, he served as the primary author of “Measuring Carbon Nanotube Band Gaps through Leakage Current and Excitonic Transitions of Nanotube Diodes,” which appeared in Nano Letters, and “Current-Induced Cleaning of Adsorbates from Suspended Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube Diodes,” published in Applied Physics Letters. Argiris Malapanis has contributed to a number of other papers. 

Experienced with presentations as well, Argiris Malapanis has discussed his research on carbon nanotubes, particularly the measurement of band gaps, in front of several scientific bodies. In April 2011, he gave an invited talk at the Spring Meeting of the New York State Section of the American Physical Society. Two months later, he spoke at the 71st Physical Electronics Conference, held in Albany. Malapanis also presented a poster at the 2010 INDEX Annual Review, sponsored by the Semiconductor Research Corporation, and delivered a contributed talk at the 2012 March Meeting of the American Physical Society, the largest scientific meeting in the world devoted to physics.

In the course of performing his research, Argiris Malapanis has acquired many specialized skills. He possesses hands-on experience growing devices using photolithography, ion implantation, wet and dry etch, chemical mechanical polishing, sputtering, oxygen plasma, chemical vapor deposition, and other related techniques. Familiar with working in a class-10 cleanroom, Malapanis has also used specialized equipment to take C-V and I-V measurements, performed scanning and transmission electron microscopy (SEM and TEM) as well as atomic force microscopy and X-ray diffraction (AFM and XRD), and worked with software packages including Synopsys Sentaurus, Origin, MATLAB, Excel, and several Adobe products.
