Anthony Gardner is an English footballer born on September 19, 1980 in Stafford. He began his international career when he appeared for the England’s Under-21 team in 2001. In the 2003-04 season, he progressed to the England national football team and made his debut in a friendly match against Sweden in March 2004 as a substitute for team-mate Gareth Southgate.
Anthony Gardner started his football career with the Port Vale Football Club in the 1998-99 season. He played in 45 matches and scored four goals for the team.
In January 2000, Anthony Gardner switched to the Tottenham Hotspur FC as a temporary cover for Sol Campbell. Very soon, he picked up the pace and got elevated through the reserves to the first-team, and made his debut for the club against the Derby County FC as a substitute in March 2001. He played for Tottenham Hotspur’s outstanding game of the season, the 5-1 victory over Chelsea at the Worthington Cup Semi-final. In the 2002-03 season, he gave 13 senior team appearances for the club and netted his first goal in a 3-2 win against West Ham United in September 2002. Due to an injury during 2005-06 season, he played for the team in 18 matches. Anthony Gardner found himself in the team-sheet in the beginning of the 2007-08 season, and he scored a goal in the team’s second Premier League game of the season at home against Everton on August 15, 2007.
On January 31, 2008, Anthony Gardner was loaned to the Everton FC for the 2007-08 season. Soon after the loan period expired, he made another loan move to Hull City for the 2008-09 season along with an option to be purchased anytime during the loan period. The loan was converted to a permanent transfer in August 2008 for a record fee of £2.5 million.
