Always looking for a new challenge, I set up The Handmade Biscuit Company in October 2008 initially as a hobby.  At the time I was running a credit management business, an area I had worked in all my life. I have always loved cooking, and baking biscuits was a great way to relax following a stressful day in the office. 

 

It wasn't until my midlife crisis set in that I actually thought that handmade biscuits could be a viable business venture.  I had never promoted the business, just made biscuits for friends by word of mouth.  I had a website (not a very good one I might add) and one day I got a call from a large corporation asking me to do some promotional biscuits for them.  In that instant I saw that what I did was a marketable venture and decided to try promoting and selling my products.

 

After research, planning and lots of baking (and tasting) the business was launched in December 2009. The first craft fair I did was a huge success and I had a lot of praise for my products so I decided there must be something to it.  Since then I have filled several large corporate orders, started trading successfully online (through a much better website) and have been present at several farmer's markets.  We are doing several food festivals this year and the business if growing from strength to strength. Not bad for a hobby!

 

When I am not working, which at the moment is not often, I like to spend time with my husband Dave and our two boys Matthew and Christian. We are renovating our house in Cheltenham very slowly and I dream of the day it is finished. We have just started skiing again, after a few years off when the boys were small, and spend hours daydreaming about crisp white pistes. I love to cook and entertain and eat, unfortunately for my waistline.
