Andrew Reid is a professional football player, who was born on July 29, 1982 in Dublin, Republic of Ireland.
Andrew Reid, who represents Republic of Ireland at the international level, started out by playing for the national Under-16 team that won the U16 Nordic Cup in August 1998, in which scored in the final win over England. He was also a part of the Republic of Ireland Under-21 team and scored four goals from five appearances for this team.
Andrew Reid has been in the squad for the Republic of Ireland national football team since 2003 and made his debut for this team in a 3-0 win over Canada. On November 18, 2003 he netted his first international goal for the national side with a 35-yard free kick against Bulgaria. His first international competitive goal came on August 18, 2004 in a World Cup Qualifier match against Cyprus. Andrew Reid added another goal to his tally on August 17, 2005 in a friendly match against Italy and followed it up with another opening goal in a 5-0 win against San Marino on November 15, 2006.
Andrew Reid began his football career with Lourdes Celtic and Cherry Orchard, which are youth clubs based in Ireland. Following this, he joined Nottingham Forest’s youth academy and graduated to the senior team in August 1999. He made his maiden appearance for the club on November 29, 2000 in a match against Sheffield United and scored a goal. On May 15, 2003, Andrew Reid netted another goal against the same team in the2003 Football League Championship play-off semi-final. He followed it up with two more goals coming from a 3-1 victory against Coventry City on August 27, 2003. He finished the 2003-2004 season as Nottingham Forest's top scorer for the season by scoring 13 goals and was also named in the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Division One team of the year. Andrew Reid scored a total of 21 goals from 144 appearances for the club and these impressive performances earned him a position as a Legend of Nottingham Forest.
On the last day of the January 2005 transfer window, Andrew Reid, along with Michael Dawson joined Tottenham Hotspur for a combined fee of £8 million. He appeared for the first time for Portsmouth on February 5, 2005 in a match against Portsmouth and helped his team win 3-1. His maiden goal for the club came against Aston Villa on May 1, 2005, and his side won the match 5-1. Till his tenure at Tottenham Hotspur, Andrew Reid featured in a total of twenty six games, which included twenty starts.
Andrew Reid made a move to Charlton Athletic on August 16, 2006 by signing a £3 million deal and scored his first goal for the club on November 25, 2006 in a match against Everton. After the match, the club’s then manager Les Reed referred to him as being similar to Ferenc Puskás who was a part of the famous Mighty Magyars. On September 18, 2007, Andrew Reid scored two goals from penalties in a 2-0 victory against Norwich City. During his two-season stint at Charlton, this midfielder scored eight goals from thirty eight appearances.
The Sunderland football club bought Andrew Reid on January 31, 2008 on a three-and-a-half-year deal worth £4 million, and this midfielder made his debut for the club on February 9, 2008 against Wigan Athletic. On March 29, 2008, he scored his first goal for Sunderland in the 95th minute of a 2-1 victory against West Ham United and helped his club earn its first back-to-back Premier League victories since December 2001.
